This article discusses three ways to quickly create simple
artistic effects using Microsoft Word - Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Photoshop.
Access the Insert tab to upload a photograph using insert picture
Select the picture and use the Format tab to select the Artistic Effects drop down menu
Navigate and preview the desired artistic effects - colors and corrections
If
you are uploading this to a blog or website, the next step is to save
in a format which is viewable on the web. The web format is usually JPEG
for photography images.
Photoshop has the option to save to web,
but if you don't have Photoshop, an alternative is to first save the
word document as a pdf file
Once the Word document is converted
into a pdf - Save as Other - select image - select JPEG and the file
will be saved as a web compatible JPEG image.
**Note: The save as image function is available in Adobe Acrobat Pro but not Acrobat Reader.
Using
Artistic effects in PowerPoint is similar to Word -- use insert picture
function to upload the photograph -- select the picture and use the
Format tab to navigate through the desired artistic effects -- colors
and corrections.
Unlike Word, the Acrobat Pro software is not
required to save as JPEG or PNG. Choosing "Save As" PNG or JPEG can be
accessed directly from the PowerPoint "Save As" Type menu.
A pop up screen appears.
Click OK (Note: The presets can be left unchanged and altered when saving)
From the file menu click place
A pop up screen appears prompting you to choose a file from your computer.
Select the photograph or image you are working with and double click the image to remove the markers.
**Note:
The Browse in Bridge function from the file menu also functions in a
similar manner as file place. Copy and Paste will also upload an image
into Photoshop.
Now that the image is uploaded -
From the filter menu select Filter Gallery
You will be taken to a screen that will preview different artistic effects similar to those found in Word and PowerPoint.
For
example: the "glowing edges" filter will give the same results as the
"glowing edges" artistic effects found in the Microsoft applications.
However, Photoshop has many other features not found in the Microsoft programs.
